Machinato Airfield on Okinawa

The completed runway of Machinato airfield located on the southwest part of Okinawa just north of Naha City. 7th Air Force planes are parked on the hardstands and are receiving a check up after returning from a bomb run over Kyushu. Work was still going on at several parts of the hardstands and taxiways but the runway started by the 874th EAB and 1906th EAB on June 1st, and took about seven weeks to complete this 6000 foot coral surfaced strip from the hilly scrub-covered terrain.
