Lt Wilkinson over Germany
Returning from the support of bombers deep within Germany, Lt. James W. Wilkinson, 411 Dickinson Ave., Swarthmore, Pa., recently swept low over two airdromes with the results shown. Pictures and A show the bullets from the eight 50 calibre machine guns in the wings of Lt. Wilkinson's Thunderbolt tearing into a twin-engine fighter. Pictures B and C show the destruction of a single-engine fighter. Note the flak tower in the background of pictures B and C. All the time that Lt. Wilkinson was sweeping over the two airdromes, he was passing through heavy anti-aircraft fire.
