Lt Lind at Naval hospital

1st Lt. Walter J. Lind of San Francisco, suffered a compound fracture of his right leg when the truck in which he was riding plunged off a road congested with second front traffic the day before D-Day. He was rushed to a nearby Naval hospital where Navy doctors set his leg and encased it in a solid cast. Lt. Lind landed in a jeep on D-Day, with his leg propped up on the dashboard, and has been hard at work ever since at the job of building landing strips for Ninth Air Force combat units.
