Lt. Lawrence Townsend, a B-17 pilot, brought back his wings, Lt. bar and assortment of Nazi souvenirs pinned to his wool knit headgear. Townsend was captured after being shot down by flak during a bombing run over St. Lo on 25 July 1944.
