Lt Hugh L Wade at Bengasi air base

At an air base near Bengasi, Cirenaica, Libya, Lt. Hugh L. Wade, aerial cameraman with a Ninth U.S. Air Force combat camera unit, is shown with a special camera mount designed for use on the Ploesti, Roumania, bombing mission. The Ploesti raid knocked out the source of over 35% of Germany's war machine fuel, and virtually destroyed the oil wells and refineries in a 19 square mile area heavily defended by enemy fighters and anti-aircraft guns.
