Hatch of Stockton, Calif., a Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter pilot of the Mediterranean Allied Air Forces in Italy, proudly points to the 5 Swastikas on the nose of his plane, that proclaim his victory over 5 Hun aircraft that he shot down in a raid over Ploesti. Lt. Hatch polished off 5 FW-190's in one minute and 15 seconds in an 180 degree turn. 71st Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group, Italy, 27 June 1944.
