Lt Harlan Fricke in Lockheed P-38 over Germany

While returning in his Lockheed P-38 from a photo reconnaissance mission over Germany to record damage wreaked a few hours before by U.S. Air Force bombers, Lt. Harlan Fricke of Gardenville, Nev., made his debut into the fraternity of flying men who have flown as fast as sound. Here he describes his experience to Capt. Kermit Bliss of Sigourney, Iowa, flight engineer (left), and T/Sgt. Neil O'Buley from Portland, Oregon, his crew chief. Oxford, England, 9 November 1943.
