SUFFOLK, ENGLAND - Lt. George F. Perpente, New Brunswick, N.J., left, sits on a 500 lb. "Cookie" and discusses the most recent raid on Germany with two flying cronies, Lt. Francis N. King, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Lt. William Thistlewaite, Richmond, Indiana. The 500 lb. bomb will be attached to the belly of the Republic P-47 in the background. The Thunderbolt as a fighter bomber is the latest aerial threat to Hitler dominated Europe. The bomb is attached in the same manner as the auxiliary gasoline tank which the plane carries when it acts as fighter escort on long distance raids.
