Lt Col Clark in England

ENGLAND - When his 8th AF North American P-51 Mustang group one day destroyed more than 100 enemy planes to duplicate a job done less than a week before, Lt. Col. William C. Clark of Richmond, Va., made a healthy contribution by destroying 8 of the 118 Nazi aircraft left burning on airfields and in dispersal areas northeast of Regensburg, Col. Clark's 339th Fighter Group boosted its total score against the Luftwaffe to more than 615 planes destroyed in less than a year of combat operations. On a strafing mission in the Berlin area, it broke the 8th AF and European strafing record with 105 planes destroyed. One squadron went beyond the 310-destroyed mark to set a new ETO record for a squadron in its first year of operations; it, like the rest of Col. Clark's group will end its initial year April 30, 1945.
