Lt Carperelli with crew chief at A-36

2nd Lt. Joseph Carperelli, 95 Park Ave., Harrison, New York talks with his crew chief, S/Sgt. John Gilson, Hamburg, Iowa. Lt. Carparelli flies one of the new North American A-36 fighter-bombers that proved itself in the Sicilian campaign. Lt. Carparelli is a member of a North American A-36 unit operating from North Africa. Recently, when one of his comrades parachuted into Sicilian territory, Lt. Carparelli circled until his fellow pilot made a safe landing and when Axis soldiers ran to capture the fallen airman, the Harrison Flyer whipped his fighter-bomber around and machine gunned the group giving his friend a chance to escape.
