LSTs in Vitiaz Strait
LST landing ships of the United States Coast Guard and Navy plow through the waters of Vitiaz Strait enroute from Cape Sudest, New Guinea to Cape Gloucester, New Britain. Before the landing strips of Gloucester were completed the LSTs maintained a concentrated supply line to the Americans who had recently taken the Cape Gloucester area in one of the most successful combined operational landings yet made in any theatre. New Britain, January 1944.
