Lockheed P-38 Lightning in England

ENGLAND - Besides being used for strafing German installations and to escort 8th AF heavy bombers to strategic enemy targets, and Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter is also used for high altitude and dive bombing. Here two 1,000 pound demolition bombs are being readied for a mission. Armament men, S/Sgt Paul E. Bottorff of St. Louis, Mo., (Left) and S/Sgt Robert F. Butler, Formoso, Ka., are attaching tail fin to one of the bombs.
