Litter in bombers
1943-06-10
A semi-rigid litter that is wrapped splint-like around a wounded airman maintains head-to-hip and hip-to-toe stiffness and enables a casualty to be removed from cramped quarters in bombers and loaded into an ambulance. The litter is made of canvas and is strengthened by strips of hard wood. It bends at the hips to facilitate a patient's passage through hatchways, while binding straps prevent move-ments that might aggravate injuries. 351st Bomb Group, England, 10 June 1943.
