1944-04-27
EXPLOSION OVER CHALONS, FRANCE - A huge explosion sends smoke and flame miles skyward as Liberators of the U.S. 8th AF struck at the marshalling railway yards at Chalons, northeast of Paris, on April 27, 1944. The explosion, as yet of undetermined origin occurred at the height of the attack which hit station, rail lines and repair shops. This was the second mission for the American heavies that day.
