Liberators bomb Messina port

AXIS PORT IN SICILY FEELS STING OF LIBERATOR'S BOMBS: From dawn to dusk in January, Messina, important Axis shipping port in Sicily, was bombed heavily by Consolidated B-24 Liberators, with direct hits scored on the railroad ferry terminus. Seven Liberators of the 9th Air Force in the Middle East flew the first mission, followed soon after by nine sister planes. The latter group was intercepted by five ME-109's. Three enemy planes were shot down, with no loss suffered by the Americans. This shows a clearer view of the destruction done by the bombs unloaded by the Liberators. Fires are raging after hits on the railroad ferry terminus. THEATRE 12 - Messina, Sicily - MEDITERRANEAN AREA Pader europe Raids Harbor aerials
