Liberator bomber over southern Germany

This Liberator bomber of the U.S. Army 15th Air Force successfully dropped its bombs on its target in southern Germany, then gallantly fought off the attacks of a host of German fighters on the way home, only to crash land on an airfield in southern Italy. All of the crew managed to scramble out of the plane before it burst into flames.
