Ground crewmen peel a frozen tarpaulin from the hood of this Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter-bomber as they ready it for a combat mission. Shown in foreground are snow-covered 1,000 lb bombs with which these fighter-bombers are armed. Despite poor flying weather and numbing temperatures on the ground, First Tactical Air Force fighters were over Germany every day between 13 Dec 44 and 15 Jan 45.
