GI's in Ajaccio Corsica

Ajaccio, Corsica - After having cut probably the tallest tree in Corsica, a group of GI's took it upon themselves to erect the first American Flag pole on the Island of Corsica. Here, a final check is made just before the inauspicious but historic flag raising. Members of Headquarters Squadron of 2688th Air Defense get credit for chipping the tree and Company A, 437th Signal Battalion (Aviation) gets cheers for scraping, painting and erecting the pole. November 1943.
