George Clevanik at wreckage

M/Sgt. George Glevanik of Irwin, Pa., in midst of strewn wreckage of the Consolidated B24 Liberator "Vadie Raye", on which he was engineer and gunner, points to spot where he was suspended from catwalk and dragged along runway as the blazing ship landed at its home airdrome. Damaged by enemy fighter attacks after the successful bombing of Hamm, Germany 23 April 44, "Vadie Raye", landed in England with her forward section completely afire. After the ship came to a halt, Glevanik burrowed his way out and escaped just before the Lib exploded.
