Frequent target of 9th AF fighters was Saarburg, Germany, seven miles from the Saar-Moselle junction. It fell to the 10th Armored Division on 24 Feb. 1945 without opposition. Though bridge was completely destroyed, the 94th Division secured three bridgeheads across the river near Saarburg on 22 Feb. 1945 leading to capture of important fortress city of Trier.
