Flying Fortresses over Rome

Flying to the outskirts of Rome itself, AAF Flying Fortresses of the 15th Air Force pound the Centocello airdrome, southeast of the Eternal City, leaving smoke billowing upward from hits on hangars, administration buildings, barracks, the runway, parked aircraft, and a probable ammunition stores. Other Fortresses bombed the Guidonia airdrome 14 miles northeast of Rome. Mission was carried out on 13 January.
