Flying Fortresses over Germany

EIGHTH AAF BOMBER COMMAND STATION, England -- The photograph shows an unusual view of flak bursts mingling with vapor trails from Flying Fortresses as the Eighth Air Force bombers left a target in Germany. The picture was taken by Staff Sgt. Robert J. Cupp from the nose of the Flying Fortress in which he was serving as bombardier just after the bomber had passed through a much heavier concentration of flak directly over the target. Sgt. Cupp's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cupp, and his wife, Mrs. Marie Cupp, live at 25 Areford Road, Uniontown, Pa.
