Flying Fortress pilot in North Africa

"THANKS, FELLAHS" - Most grateful Flying Fortress pilot in North Africa is 1st Lt. Holger A. Selling, 219 Glen Ave., Fresno, Calif., center., who lost two engines in a mission over Italy recently, but who owes his safety and protection to 1st Lt. Richard F. Underwood, left, and 1st Lt. Clarence W. Goedecke, Jr., right, who turned their own planes back and hovered by to fight off 15 Axis fighters until they could all get back to their base. Lt. Selling's comment later was: "They must have realized that I'm not a very good swimmer." Lt. Underwood's home is 18 East St., Mount Tom, Mass., while Lt. Goedecke lives at Minden, Nevada.
