Flying Fortress in England

1943-05-06

This runway took nine days to build by a unit of the 347th Engineers and was made in a wheatfield at NR. Bournemouth, Hants, England where a flying fortress crash landed. A mobile repair unit came along to make on the spot repairs, then the engineers made a runway and the fortress took off where it landed. The saving of time and labor by this method reckoned in months and thousands of dollars. 6 May 1943.
