Flyers on submarine deck

After being rescued by a submarine these flyers of two 13th Air Force bombers from the 394th Bomb Squadron, 5th Bomb Group, pose for the photographer on the deck of the sub with parts salvaged from their bombers. Their planes were shot down by Jap "Zekes" while on a mission over Yap Island in the Caroline Group. They are, left to right: 1st Lt. Phillip P. Hickey of Youngstown, Ohio; T/Sgt. Peter J. Ferrand of Chicago, Illinois; Capt. Dick R. Longino of Atlanta, Georgia; S/Sgt. Charles E. Craighead, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia and Sgt. George Christopolis of New York, N.Y. Los Negros, Admiralty Islands.
