Fighter Pilots At Caribbean Air Base
ALERT ROOM AT A CARIBBEAN AIR BASE (L TO R): Major J.B. Henry, Jr., Charlotte, Texas (near San Antonio), squadron commander; Captain G. E. Duncan, Houston, Texas; Lt. W.S. Borders, Brownwood, Texas; and Lt. M. C. Addison, Lubbeck, Texas. Fighter pilots -- all boys from the Lone Star State, rush from alert shack to their waiting airplanes at the sound of an alarm. Shacks such as these, pro-vided with ping-pong and card tables, radios, bunks, and refrigerators for soft drinks, are constructed under the jungle growth out of sight. Their proxi-mity to the revetments in which fighter aircraft are concealed ensures against loss of time in taking off when alarms are sounded, yet provides ample protection from weather and insects.
