Evacuated POWs at Atsugi Airstrip

1945-08-30

Shown here are two evacuated POW's who had spent three years in the Jap prison camp at Kobi, about 450 miles from Atsugi Airstrip, where Douglas C-54 "Skymasters" from the ATC brought them to be evacuated to the States. These men were suffering from severe malnutrition, but were able to smile at the thought of going home to stay. Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto, 30 August 1945.
