Engineers complete airstrip in Germany

Starting from opposite ends, aviation engineers of the IX Engineer command approach a central point which will mark completion of the runway at a fighter-bomber airstrip in Germany. Shortly after this photograph was made, Republic P-47 Thunderbolts of Maj. Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg's 9th A F were taking off from the strip to pound enemy targets ahead of U. S. Ground forces.
