END OF CONTE VERDE in Shanghai Harbor. When the U.S. Army 14th Air force announced the sinking of the 17,500 ton Italian liner Conte Verde by a lone Consolidated B-24 Liberator, the Tokyo radio denied it, claiming that the luxury liner was undamaged.
