Eighth Air Force crew at Merseburg

1944-11-30

HEAVIEST FLAK EVER... This was the unanimous opinion of Eighth Air Force crew returning from 30 November 1944 mission to oil targets at Merseburg, Germany. Flight Surgeon Captain William W. Ornduff, of Portland, Oregon, treats a slightly wounded crewman, a few moments after the flak damaged Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" had made a precarious one-wheel landing.
