Cpl Ruby Newell in England

Cpl. Ruby I. Newell, Long Beach, Calif., selected as the most beautiful Wac in England in a contest sponsored by the Army newspaper "Stars and Stripes," stands beside the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Ruby's Raiders", named for her by the 385th Bombardment Division. The likeness of the Wac beauty queen was painted on the bomber by Cpl. William E. Floss, Jr., Trafford, Pa. Cpl. Newell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Newell of Hatch, N.M., lived at 1124 E. 33rd St., Long Beach, with her parents, before entering the armed forces.
