Coral strip on Middleburg Island

Immediately after dump trucks emptied their load of coral, graders, scrapers and rollers followed in their tracks, leveling and packing the surface in preparation for laying the steel mat. The strip on Middleburg Island, off the coast of Dutch New Guinea, was built in record time by men of the 836th Aviation Engineers. August 1944.
