Control tower operators at Eighth AAF Fighter Station

Here are the men at the end of the England - France shuttle service which has been giving 24-hour service since the start of the invasion. They are control tower operators at an Eighth AAF Fighter Station where North American P-51 Mustangs led by Col. Donald W. Graham, Oakland, Calif., have taken off for the Invasion Coast, dive-bombed, strafed, and returned to refuel and set out again. Despite hundreds of takeoffs and landings, there was not a single accident, thanks to these men who sit in the tower and control all traffic on the Airfield. Left to right, at table are: 2nd Lt. Guyen C. Zimmer, 7655 Phillips Ave., Chicago, Ill., Cpl. John N. Begue, 4925 Montana St., Chicago, Ill., and S/Sgt. Thomas V. Conti, 289 East 157 St., New York City. Through window, spotting planes is Cpl. Clyde E. Streeck, 13842 Valley Heart Drive, Van Nuys, Calif.
