Chinese Village Near Air Base
A torn-down Chinese village with an American Air Base just beyond, which was, until a short time ago, a village with scores of mud-brick houses inhabited by several hundred farm families. But more room was needed for the busy airfield, where cargo and fighter planes land and take off continuously, day and night. The dwellings were torn down by hand, and the dirt and salvaged bricks and roof tiles were carted off to build new houses a bit more distant from the air base and in a less congested vicinity.
