Chaplain delivers sermon England

"ON A WING AND A PRAYER" - A 9th Air Service Command Advanced Air Depot, England: With the guns of America's deadliest fighter plane bristling from his make-shift pulpit, Chaplain Solon L. Cole of Beaumont, Tex., delivers a Sunday sermon to officers and men of this depot somewhere in England. With Bible in hand, standing on the wing of a Republic P-47 "Thunderbolt", Chaplain Cole declared: "Any place where men worship can be a church..men do not need a cathedral to worship God". Services were held in a hangar at this base when the regular chapel was not available for use. Spare engine parts, wing sections and oil-splattered canvas walls set a realistic stage for the chaplain's theme as the men who keep 9th AF fighters in the air gathered for Sunday worship.
