Capt Smith in 9th AF

Capt. William E. Smith, (now Maj.), 485 Central Ave., Hapeville, Ga., the best bombardier in the 9th AF, keeps in physical trim by chopping wood, which incidentally provides fuel for his tent stove. Capt. Smith has served as lead bombardier of his Martin B-26 group 61 times out of his total of more than 88 missions, and has personally dropped more than 300,000 pounds of the more than 4,000 tons of bombs loosed at his direction.
