Capt Preddy in smoking P-47
Capt. George E. Preddy of Greensboro, N. C., after destroying an FW 190, his third victory, was hit by flak. He continued flying his smoking Republic P-47 "Thunderbolt" till he got over the English Channel, where he was forced to bail out. Lt. Frederick A. Yochim, of Erie, Pa., flying as a spotter, found Capt. Preddy in a few minutes, and kept calling in with fixes. In less than fifteen minutes, Capt. Preddy was picked up by air-sea rescue.
