order to keep pace with the rapid advance of the 1st U S Army through Germany, gasoline has to be flown up to them, rather than transport it by truck over the heavily burdened bridges over the Rhine River. Douglas C-47's fly gasoline from France to a German Airfield which was captured intact. Each plane carries 121 5-gallon cans of gas, or approximately 600 gallons.
