C-47s at Myitkyina Burma

This photograph gives some idea of the number of troop carrier planes (Douglas C-47s) which brought in supplies and reinforcements to Lt. General Joseph W. Stilwell's Chinese-American forces at Myitkyina, Burma after the strip had been made usable by the airborne engineers. The gasoline drums in the foreground were scattered over the field by the Japanese in an attempt to impede the landings of our planes.
