Brig Gen Turner greets crewman in England

Brig. Gen. Howard M. Turner, C.G. of the 1st Air Division, U.S. 8th AF greets AF combat crewman on his return to England on Feb. 17, 1945 with U.S. soldiers who had been released from an internment camp in Switzerland. The repatriates arrived in troop-carrying Douglas C-47 Dakotas from an airbase in France. Most of the men were crew members of U.S. 8th AF heavy bombers which were forced to land in Switzerland after attacking targets in Germany. They stepped out on English soil less than forty-eight hours after being released.
