Barracks at Prince Christian's Sound
Prince Christian's Sound, Greenland. Photo shows barracks area, dock area, and harbor area at the station. Picture taken from hill leading to weather-radio Operations Building. (1) barracks and present recreation room on left side, outside the kitchen and the shed. Kitchen and shed contains a large thousand gallon tank and supply shack. Part of barracks building marked (2) is the new section which was added during the summer of 1944. Underneath entrance (3) leads to the proposed day room. (4) is dock and (5) is Belle Island. (6) is an anchorage across the Prince Christian's Sound on the mainland about 2 miles NW of the station. (7) shows the direction of a small anchorage. This anchorage was used during 1942 for the Belle Island while it was constructing the station. (8) shows the water body constituting Prince Christian's Sound Weather Station is on an island. The NW is Idglorsuk Mountain. This is actually an independent arm of the Ice Cap. 6 Oct 1944.
