Balikpapan, Borneo, N.E.I., from which the Japs formerly drew 7,000,000 barrels of high octane gas and oil every year, lies burning under a 13th AAF Liberator attack. The "Jungle Air Force" put Balikpapan under land-based attack in September 1944 and has pounded the major refinery regularly since. B-24s, B-25s, and P-38s of the 13th AAF carried out a month of intensive raids before Australian troops invaded Balikpapan.
