B26 Marauder hit in Toulon Harbor

direct hit by an 88 mm flak shell during an attack on enemy coastal defense guns in Toulon harbor, southern France. With the right engine sheared off but still turning and the wing ablaze, the plane crashed into the city a few minutes after this photograph was taken. 17th Bm Gp, 95th Sq - alc #50 20/8/44, over Toulon Aug CREW: Pilot: 1st Lt.
