B-29 Superfortresses attack Singapore

1945-02-01

One of the most amazing examples of accurate high level precision bombing ever recorded. was accomplished on 1 February 1945 when Boeing B-29 "Superfortresses" of the 20th Bomber Command attacked the floating dry dock at Singapore, Malay Peninsula. The floating dock had been built in Great Britain and towed to Singapore; the Japanese gained possession of the vital installations when the British retired from the area. This photograph, taken the day after the raid, shows the dock partially submerged and the 460 foot freighter with decks awash.
