B-29 Superfortress over Singapore

BOMBING SINGAPORE'S EMPIRE DOCK -- A B-29 Superfortress of Brig. Gen. Roger M. Ramey's XXth Bomber Command is ready for a run over the target at Japanese-held Singapore as a camera in its nose snaps this picture of a huge black smoke column rising from the burning Empire Dock which was plastered with bombs by earlier formations of Superfortresses. The smoke has reached a height of 10,000 feet, later rising to nearly 20,000. The mission took place from India bases of the Bomber Command, and the Empire Dock area was virtually destroyed.
