B-26 Marauders target Cassino
The Abbey Monte Di Cassino, used as a fortified defense point against advancing 5th AF, is the target for B-26 Marauders of the 12th AAF. Shown in the aerial photograph is the embattled mountain town and the Cassino Monastery, where enemy troops have staged a strong defense, using the ancient building as a fortress. On a hill north of Cassino, the commanding location was lost to the German defenders as the Marauder bombs fell true, right on the target.
