B-26 Marauders over Ceprano Italy

CEPRANO, ITALY, on the Rome-Cassino highway, immediately north of the fighting front in Italy, is the target of USAAF Martin B-26 Marauders actively supporting the landing of invasion forces south of Rome. The photograph shows the bomb-bursts as the highway junction point, and bridge, are attacked by the fast medium bombers. Despite heavy antiaircraft fire from the enemy guns, steel-nerved bombardiers direct their thousand-pounders right on the point of the supply junction.
