B-26 Marauders near Orvieto
Two railroad bridges on either side of Orvieto on the alternate Central Italy line to Rome made good targets for the B-26 Marauders of the Tactical Air Force (12th AAF) on the day before the Allies landed south of Rome. The bridge in the reconnaissance photo is to the south of Orvieto. The Air Plan called for blocks on all the main lines to Rome before D-day; the prescription was filled.
