B-26 Marauder over Rhine

A Martin B-26 Marauder of the 9th Bombardment Division, photographed against a solid blanket of white clouds, on its way to blast a German communications center in the path of U.S. forces advancing east of the Rhine. The day before the First and Ninth U.S. Armies began their offensives, on 22 Feb.1945, hundreds of Martin B-26s smashed at 80 enemy rail targets to isolate German troops in the attack areas from their sources of supply and reinforcement. 584BS 34484
