A Martin B-26 Marauder of the 9th Bombardment Division, its left engine set ablaze by enemy flak, shown leaving the communications center of Xanten, Germany, after an attack Feb. 14, 1945. The fire was extinguished by crewmen. Xanten, astride the main highway leading from the Ruhr Valley to Cleve, is an important route for the shuttling of troops and supplies to the northern sector of the Western front, where British and Canadian troops are driving into the Reich.
